What happens in a coaching conversation?

The best coaching conversations are customized so that real change can happen based on your unique goals, context and story. Red Maple coaches also practice the global, gold standard in coaching so your time together will include the following four parts.

1) Setting the Stage:

  • You and your coach will establish a comfortable and trusting environment.

  • You will share what you want to work on or achieve in that session.

2) Exploration and Awareness:

  • Your coach will ask open-ended questions to help you reflect on your thoughts, feelings, and goals. You may also decide to use a specific assessment or resource to catalyze your awareness. (Eg., Books, Podcasts, Thought Leadership, Assessment Tests etc.)

  • Together, you will explore challenges, strengths, and desired areas for change.

  • The coach can offer their perspective and expertise but their primary goal is to challenge you to access your own wisdom, creativity and resourcefulness. This is where the deep work of self-awareness and self-evolution happens.

3) Goal Setting and Action Planning:

  • Based on insights gained, you will set intentional, specific goals.

  • You will collaborate with your coach on a plan of action to reach those goals.

4) Accountability and Celebration:

  • You will take the next steps toward your goals.

  • Over time you will reflect on progress, celebrate successes, and adjust plans as needed.

Think of it like being on a tandem bike. You are on the front seat setting the direction and pace. The coach is on the back seat providing momentum and balance. No one can do the deep work of becoming a high-impact leader for you. But you can’t do it alone.
